NEDD’S RECORD RUN
Get comfortable being uncomfortable
This isn’t only the biggest project I was lucky enough to be a part of for 2022, but probably my most important to date as a creative and as a person. Nedd Brockmann, now a household name, took off from Cottesloe Beach, WA on September 1st, 2022, and arrived in Bondi Beach on October 17th travelling almost 4000kms by foot to raise over 2.5million dollars for homelessness. Showing people all across the world what the mind is capable of when we adopt determination and perseverance.
The run would test us all and teach us a lot about ourselves. It would allow us to witness greatness transpire every day for 46 days.
A rollercoaster of emotions. Exhaustion, emotional fatigue, tears of joy and sadness, elation, excitement. One hell of a journey that helped transformed a young apprentice electrician from country NSW into an Australian icon, changing a lot of people’s lives and mindsets in the process.
“Our bodies aren’t made for this sort of torture. They aren’t designed for this much pain… or are they?”
— Nedd Brockmann
The finish line was a special moment for everyone involved in the adventure and a lot of support showed out to cheer him across the line. Coming down the promenade was something I'll never forget, and we thought what an opportunity to show off Bursty’s creativity and turn out an edit for PUMA, narrated by Scott Cam, within an hour of crossing the line, that gathered almost 2.4 million views, and caught the eyes of BBC and CNN.
A journey I will hold forever and an experience I will be honoured to share more with anyone that asks. Many lessons were learnt, and plenty to reflect upon. Moments I can retell a thousand times, however not all will truly understand what we got to witness every day.
Seeing Nedd face up each morning, fearful, raw, teary-eyed, exhausted, in agony, and somehow draw the strength to grit his teeth and begin shuffling into the darkness, showed me what it truly means to SHOW UP and KEEP FIGHTING. You gave me fresh meaning to how much PERSPECTIVE is our power. How we react to what we’re dealt with, what we wake up to, is up to us. We may not always like it, but we have the choice to change it.
Celebrate all wins and losses, big and small. Learn as much as you can. Find a way. Go out and get some.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
